This is the second installment in a series on how cloud is shaping healthcare. To read the first installment, click here.
It’s predicted that by 2040, the healthcare industry will be valued at $25 trillion, growing by triple digits every five years. The US market alone represents $3.5 trillion of that amount. This growth means that healthcare organizations need to increase margins while providing better patient experiences and outcomes.
How can this be accomplished?
Enabling Efficient Access to Data
The healthcare industry is unique in that it aggregates data from numerous disparate, siloed, and legacy sources. This causes the continuum of care to suffer and positive patient outcomes to decrease.
To address these challenges, healthcare organizations are beginning their digital transformation journeys and are starting to leverage Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and other cloud providers to integrate, automate, and analyze data. The cloud enables organizations to fully utilize, analyze, and digest all of their data, and create a central hub for it with streamlined access for providers and patients alike.
The cloud also enables the use of new technologies, such as home monitoring health devices and telehealth, to provide health data back to payers and providers. As healthcare organizations continue to deploy these and other cloud technologies, healthcare organizations will be able to make decisions faster, which benefits patients.
Integrating Data to Provide Complete Health Views
Integrating data from patient and member encounters and from external sources like public health records, medical devices, and environmental databases, lets organizations build a more complete picture of the consumer, enabling the care provider to treat the whole person, not just part of them.
Cloud makes obtaining actionable insights from health records much easier and enables organizations to analyze data faster by integrating cloud platforms and other technologies. The larger and more accurate the data set is, the more specific and prescriptive the insights will be.
