Business leaders worldwide have reservations about their ability to successfully embrace digital transformation. The writing is on the wall, disrupt or be disrupted. However, the ability to adapt and pivot in the face of change is hindered by businesses entrenched in old systems and processes.
This is a key finding of a recent study conducted by Changepoint, a provider of project and portfolio management applications, in which the company surveyed 1,257 project managers and executives from mid-sized to large-scale operations worldwide.
Disruptive new competitors remain a real concern for C-level executives, and yet only 10 percent of survey respondents indicate they have confidence that their business is agile enough to respond to new entrants.
“Survey respondents said the most pervasive and prevalent barriers to agility include a lack of real-time transparency into projects (41 percent) and resources (49 percent), and over-reliance on manual reporting such as spreadsheets (75 percent).”1
According to survey respondents, multiple disparate systems is a barrier to business agility. This isn’t an earth shattering revelation and yet it’s worthy of mentioning as it is a very real problem.
If your of the same opinion, and find yourself locked into old habits and systems with a desire to be more agile, a hybrid approach might be the answer you’re looking for. It is possible to integrate cloud with legacy applications with a hybrid approach. Cloud applications by their very nature have a more flexible architecture and can integrate with on-premises applications. If you’re contemplating how this model can work for you, seek out a trusted advisor and explore your options. The key is to act now and plan ahead as change is inevitable and it’s better to be a cloud leader than a follower.
