SAP NetWeaver Portal in the Cloud

We don’t get to blog much about SAP NetWeaver Portal, however, for those companies that use it or rely on SAP, it can be an important product to them.  SAP announced in September that they were making available a cloud version of NetWeaver Portal.

SAP has enabled the portal to securely and reliably connect with on-premise SAP installations, so you can take advantage of cloud for the portal without being forced to go all-in on the cloud.  Screenshot of SAP NetWeaver Cloud Portal

The image to the right shows a sample portal page built with SAP NetWeaver Cloud Portal.

Highlights of the new Cloud Portal include:

  • Runs on top of SAP NetWeaver Cloud, a standards-based and modular platform-as-a-service solution for Java-based applications, hosted by the SAP public cloud
  • Built to operate with SAP HANA, for in-memory computing
  • Designed for mobile consumption, using HTML5 for dynamic adaptation to a range of different devices
  • Embraces industry technological standards
  • Leveraging existing on-premise investments and the consumption of OpenSocial-based content
  • Outstanding branding and customization capabilities

SAP has also gone the extra mile to include mobile versions of the portal right away.  They have optimized the portal to present nicely on an iPad as well.  You can even try out a version of the portal here: https://serversapphireportal-demo.netweaver.ondemand.com/com.sap.labs.odp.web/odp?id=118#138
