Fresh of its $13.7 billion dollar acquisition of grocery chain Whole Foods, Amazon received some more good news over the weekend: Amazon Web Services (AWS) was once again named a visionary in research firm Gartner’s Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) Magic Quadrant.
A leader and a pioneer in the cloud space, Amazon’s recognition is its 10th consecutive, fresh off the heels of a 2016 that saw a run rate of over $14 billion dollars. With business use cases applied by industry leaders in the telecommunications, media, technology, consumer durables, sharing economy, and science sectors (amidst much more), sentiment for the platform remains strong.
Amid the variety of solutions AWS offers across storage (S3), cloud solutions (EC2), serverless computing (Lambda), collaboration, and much more, Gartner also identifies the platform as the most mature, enterprise-ready provider with “the deepest capabilities for governing a large number of users and resources”. With additional capabilities around mission critical data migrations, a focus on security, and compliance, AWS is a “safe choice” for enterprises, startups, and small businesses looking for long-term infrastructure.
