Check this out. Roche just developed a mobile app, which is currently being evaluated in a Phase I trial, that can help assess the severity of one’s Parkinson’s disease (PD).
Here’s how it works: Patients are provided with pre-configured smartphones and, over time, are guided through a series of tests to collect data points. Between tests, patients are asked to carry their phones for passive monitoring.
Traditionally, the severity of a patient’s PD has been evaluated by physicians at a moment in time, rather than over the course of time. Roche’s new app will provide time-elapsed insights, which will help researchers understand and develop better PD treatments, and will help clinical trial investigators monitor patients’ adherence and their ability or eagerness to adopt new technology.
