Is there such thing as Searchandizing?

Imagine you are visiting your favorite store online.  You are looking for something in particular so you use the search item to find it.  The search results not only finds what you are looking for but also shows you correlating items (ie. matching glasses, napking rings, etc. to the plate set you searched for).  The chances of you purchasing more than what you originally sought out is much higher and with that, the digital store just successfully utilized Searchandising!
In a recent blog post written by Shankar RamaNathan, a Senior Enterprise Architect at Perficient, he discusses how imperative it is for retailers to deploy the proper tools and metrics in order to understand the customer buying patterns that will drive overall change.

Key strategies for leveraging these tools and platforms starts with a robust Product Data Management coupled with Customer experience strategies. Understanding the current state involves knowing:

  • What is the conversion rate?
  • Which actions are likely to happen?
  • What do we know about the customer patterns?
