On Monday, Microsoft along with Sitecore and Vantiv announced alliances that will impact your commerce options and capabilities for your Sitecore investment. Sitecore and Microsoft plan to build a new joint e-commerce integration between Sitecore’s Customer Engagement Platform (CEP) and Microsoft Dynamics to be able to provide improved channels for in-store and digital experiences. This should provide marketers the ability to manage the full customer experience lifecycle.
Sitecore has been active as of late in their commerce aspirations with the purchase of commerceserver.net and this announcement only solidifies the direction they want to continue to be able to provide more capability for commerce offerings.
The Microsoft-Vantiv alliance could bring to Sitecore commerce offerings for more seamless payment processing options, improved mobile payment options, and some retail improvements through Microsoft Dynamics. This will likely provide marketers and retailers using Sitecore more options to improve the overall customer experience through various payment options and additional analytics around those interactions to allow marketers to better target content and offerings that customers.
I guess we will have to wait and see the exact features and improvements that will derive from these alliances, but it will change the commerce landscape for Sitecore going forward. A lot has yet to be determined not only how these will integrate and what that will do for current technology partner products and their future product features.
