Let’s see how they stack up. First take a look at the launch icons. I’m not sure what the Moshare icon is – some kind of gauge? iShare has document in folders.
Next, we’ll look at the account settings pages. Moshare is in the left corner and iShare on the right. Moshare has a switch for SSL and with iShare you type https:// in the url. Both store credentials as part of the application. Perhaps this is not as secure as signing directly into the site but definitely more convenient.
Now we see the list of libraries. Notice that Moshare doesn’t have the Shared Pictures list. It also doesn’t show any lists when I look at other sites. Moshare gives the ability to sort the list various ways.
I could open a PowerPoint presentation and I could scroll and zoom in the document. These are screenshot images in the PowerPoint. Notice that Moshare has the ability to send an email or copy the link of the page in the bottom menu bar. Both have search – Moshare in the Menu from tab on top and iShare from the bottom menu bar.
Here’s another PowerPoint presentation that I opened with text formatting since the last one was an image. They look very similar.
I could open Word documents with both apps and they both seemed to render well. Of course, you can zoom and scroll on the document.
I was able to open some Excel spreadsheets. Moshare crashed a few times before succeeding. Zoom and scroll worked on both.
I couldn’t go horizontal with iShare like I could with Moshare:
Moshare has a calendar view and iShare has a list view of the calendar.
Here’s a picture from the Shared Pictures library that I didn’t see with Moshare:
Here’s an item from the list. I can look at all the metadata. The default view of the list is title only.
All in all, both tools have some decent capabilities if you need to access a SharePoint site on a small form factor. Who knows how each product will evolve over time. Right now I would go with iShare for the ability to view and browse list data although some of the collaboration features of Moshare are better.
