I thought I’d share a couple of thoughts on using SharePoint 2010 on the iPad. The iPad is not capable of displaying Silverlight or Flash content. It seems that when a page is rendering, I can scroll but once it’s done rendering and I let go, it jumps to the top and won’t scroll again. I’ll need to investigate that more.
Here’s a screenshot of My Content site. It looks good on the iPad but no need to scroll yet.
The resolution is 1024×768 and it looks very crisp.
Here’s a screenshot of a Google Maps Flickr GeoLocation web services application using JQuery running on the iPad. It seems to be working well. I’m happy.
Here’s a Bing Maps Ajax Control JavaScript animation application. It seems okay but you lose the 3D effects that the desktop application provides with Silverlight. It doesn’t auto-select the birds-eye view and won’t let me scroll.
Check it out and let me know if you like it.
I was also able to get a YouTube HTML5 Video Player working with Flash. Here’s the video if you’re interested in trying it on your iPad.
I’d especially like to know your thoughts if you have an iPad regarding functionality that is reduced or doesn’t work at all.
In a future post I plan to hook up the SharePoint 2010 Client Object Model for JavaScript (ECMAScript) with the Bing map to map info from a SharePoint list.
