Will Xbox One be used in the workplace, is a question I ask myself as I see information come across the wire. The simple answer is Yes it will have value in the workplace in my opinion. At first glance it may not have a place in the enterprise, though I believe it will be great for small businesses. At the end I invite you to post comments about your thoughts on the Xbox One for businesses outside gaming.
I believe it will start as a new way of conducting video conferences and meetings. Any industry that does live demonstrations can easily benefit from this technology. Rather then setting up rooms with projection equipment to do demonstrations they can use a TV and Xbox. Think of a model home in the real estate business. When potential buyers come to a model home to see what options are available, rather than flipping through catalogs, they can use the Xbox to transform the experience by making it interactive. I think the Xbox will even make some new businesses a reality. Think of all the training videos on YouTube. Wouldn’t it be better if you could attempt the task with instant feedback though video chats.
Xbox One will also have SkyDrive cloud storage which will allow access images, videos and Microsoft Office files. You can also use Internet Explorer to showcase websites or run web-based applications, including the web-based Office applications. Not sure exactly when it will be a reality, businesses will also be able to build custom applications that suits theirs or their client’s needs. You will also be able offload some of the computation needs to the cloud.
