In my previous post, I talked about Oracle Big Data Cloud Service. Then, what is Oracle Big Data SQL Cloud Service?
Like Oracle Big Data Cloud Service, Oracle Big Data SQL Cloud Service is a PaaS subscription model.
Oracle Big Data SQL Cloud Service is Oracle’s breakthrough approach to simplifying access to big data sources. Oracle Big Data SQL Cloud Service enables unified query for distributed data, and analyze data across Apache Hadoop, NoSQL, and Oracle database in a single statement with extreme performance. Oracle Big Data SQL supports the complete Oracle SQL syntax.
Oracle Big Data SQL presents Hadoop and other sources as enhanced external tables. An external table is an Oracle Database object that identifies and describes the location of data outside of a database. You can query an external table using the same SQL SELECT syntax that you use for any other database tables. By querying external tables, you can access data stored in HDFS and Hive tables as if that data was stored in tables in an Oracle database. These tables are engineered to transparently map the external semantics of data access – horizontal parallelism, location, and schema – to Oracle internals. This ensures the best possible optimizations for access and native processing throughout.
Oracle Big Data SQL enables Oracle Database Security features on Hadoop and NoSQL data. Using standard Oracle security mechanisms, you can secure Big Data with standard Oracle Database roles and privileges to govern access to data.
Oracle Big Data SQL Cloud Service is all about using the right tool for the job and accessing data from one common interface.
