3 Hot Topics from #HIMSS16 Exhibit Day 1

Blog1

Day one of #HIMSS16 has wrapped and it was a day full of networking and conversation around improving healthcare. While there were plenty of discussions about various topics in healthcare, there were three overwhelming themes that were consistent throughout the majority of my conversations.

#1. Patient engagement and empowerment – One of the hot topics was around patient engagement and empowerment – how can we enhance the patient experience throughout their journey. Many of the conversations were around connected health and engaging with patients outside the traditional medical setting. Tools such as mobile, cloud and social are being leveraged to empower patients and provide them access the the necessary information to better manage their wellness. “Give me access to my data” was a familiar saying throughout the exhibit hall today.

#2. Data Management – This encompasses everything from interoperability to analytics. The amount of data that healthcare organizations have access to can be quite mind boggling and trying to manage that data is a large task but transforming that data into meaningful and powerful insights to improve the quality of care and operational performance is essential in today’s healthcare world. Integrating disparate data sources is the first step and delivering advanced analytics to optimize operational performance, meet regulatory demands and enhance patient care are the ultimate outcomes.

#3. Operational Performance – With the transformation from fee-for-servile to value based care, organizations are looking for ways to optimize operational performance. Margins continue to erode and transparency is the key to ultimately understanding costs. Healthcare organizations are looking for ways to become more efficient and are interested in enterprise performance management solutions to remain competitive in the marketplace today and to achieve the Triple Aim.

I am looking forward to what #HIMSS16 exhibit day 2 brings. Stop by the Perficient booth – 2871 and enter to win an Amazon Echo.
