While TIBCO API Exchange is a relative new comer to TIBCO’s offerings, TIBCO has made great strides in embedding it into their Fast Data architecture (and message).
This approach seems reasonable, since, according to Gartner, API Management and SOA Governance are converging into a consolidated space called “Application Services Governance.” It is even more reasonable if you believe that Big Data, Cloud, Mobile, and Internet of Things will increase the importance of API Management even more in the next years.
In The Forrester Wave™: API Management Solutions, Q3 2014, report, TIBCO ranks as a Strong Performer, behind the top 3, CA Technologies, Apigee and SOA Software, but in good company, along with IBM, Intel Services, WSO2, MuleSoft, and Axway.
For TIBCO customers (or those companies looking at TIBCO as an overall solution provider) that want to establish new business models and create added business value for their company, TIBCO API Exchange offers a reasonable alternative, offering many major requirements for an open API architecture out-of-the-box. Certainly, the combination of TIBCO API Exchange with TIBCO Business Works 6 offers a strong solution for building services and exposing APIs.
According to Forrester, “TIBCO API Exchange has a rich UI for configuring REST and SOAP APIs, and is accompanied by strong analytics. Users wish the portal showed more features and maturity and want greater integration with other Tibco products. But it’s also one of the lower cost products.” Software vendors tend to love these types of reviews that overall are positive and serve up ‘deficiencies’ that are either already on or easily added to their solution road map.
