On Wednesday, we held a webinar on a popular topic: how to successfully integrate Microsoft Lync with Cisco.
During the webinar, Matt McGillen, Director of Infrastructure at Perficient, shared his recommendations and best practices on integrating the two technologies. Many organizations today are struggling to figure out how to make Lync work with their existing investments in legacy Cisco IP telephony.
Prior to joining Perficient, Matt managed the professional services division of a regional Microsoft and Cisco consulting firm. Using his firsthand experience, he took a deep look at the ways to leverage Lync in addition to an existing Cisco infrastructure.
Matt began by talking through the decision of how to integrate – starting by defining your requirements, followed by using the best tool for the job, and then segmenting user populations. Next, he explained three ways to integrate: SIP (trunk or gateway), remote call control, or client side plug-in. He gave details on each option, provided the advantages and disadvantages to each, and shared any special considerations to take into account.
