Profitability and Cost Management for Healthcare Providers

Oracle enterprise healthcare solutions provide the framework to accelerate compliance to Accountable Care Organization (ACO) reporting requirements by providing a comprehensive healthcare data model, pre-built integration to many of the major EMR vendors, and world class performance management tools to harness Business Intelligence and Analytics, Profitability & Cost Management, and Big Data … all necessary for Population Health Management.  The Oracle Health Analytic offering also includes a proven data model covering financial, administrative, and clinical and research data with over 40 pre-built analytic applications available.

Let’s talk about an example scenario built to gain transparency to a specific set of services for the Pulmonary Services Area (inpatient) and Cystic Fibrosis outpatient clinic.  The model is structured to look at the profitability of various patient groups (included revenue and cost of major activities) to include the Intensive Care Unit, the Ward, Admitting activities, Discharge activities, etc.  The model enables the following:

  1. Ability to determine true profitability of services by business unit, service line or product grouping with transparency to both direct and indirect (allocated) expenses
  2. Ability to create “what-if” scenarios such as the impact of moving patients quicker between the expensive ICU and the ward and the impact of using less expensive technician labor vs. expensive nurses

Stay tuned for use case discussions…
