Liferay App Store called Marketplace has finally arrived

Liferay announced some time ago that they were going to build Marketplace – an online application store for the Liferay.  They even posted a YouTube video previewing Marketplace back in May 2011.

Liferay Marketplace has arrived officially.  You can access Marketplace at this address: http://www.liferay.com/marketplace

Marketplace has many applications ready to download.  Some are free apps that run on Liferay CE, the free version of the portal.  Others require a Liferay Enterprise Edition subscription to download.  You can easily tell which version of Liferay you need by looking at the icon in Marketplace.  You can see in the screenshot here, two versions of Kaleo Workflow – one with a CE designation and one with EE.Kaleo Workflow

In Marketplace you will find apps organized by categories, by featured apps, and most viewed.  You can also find themes in Marketplace.

If you are a developer, you can join the Marketplace to post your portlets or themes.

All the apps listed were free to download.  I’m sure that Marketplace has a way to charge for apps, but at least the current ones are free.

There is a long list of apps in Marketplace, so its work a look.
