I recently started to develop some scorecards in PerformancePoint and deploy them using Mobile Entrée 3.0 version for our sales team to enable demos of Mobile Entrée 3.0. I wanted to show how PerformancePoint scorecards work in Mobile Entrée 3.0 and in particular how you can link scorecards. An earlier post shows some of the features with PerformancePoint and Mobile Entrée here.
The main thing which helps you build more useful scorecards in Dashboard Designer is the ability to filter data, but since we don’t have it in Mobile Entrée we can still mimic it. It is important to note that it is possible to filter with Excel pivot tables in Mobile Entrée, but just not yet with PerformancePoint content. The ability to link scorecards and drill through from one scorecard into another is a way to enable some types of filters. Not being able to link filters with Scorecards in Mobile Entrée makes it difficult to select details which you might want to view in a scorecard. For example, you might have sales figures for sales managers and have a scorecard just for them. There is a work-around to get your scorecard to mimic a filter by enabling a scorecard to link to another scorecard. This allows you to view high level sales information on your mobile and then view down to detailed data without adding filters.
In my scenario, I had a few sales managers who wanted to monitor sales activity for their sales team. I created a scorecard for the sales manager in PerformancePoint, first by adding the sales manager member to filter data just for that person. For multiple managers we require the creation of multiple scorecards with their information selected in the dashboard enabling the ‘filter’ like functionality.
However, for our deployment I’m just show-caseing one manager. Below you see the scorecard in Dashboard designer which I created for the manager.
I specifically selected the members for the Year 2012 and allowed a view for the sales manager for the current year.
However, in cases where sales managers wish to see details on their team members I had to create additional content to enable the detailed view for the sales manager. This enables the sales manager to view details on the sales members which are part of his team.
I replicated the scorecards for each of the sales representatives by selecting their names in the Dashboard designer and saved them in my site. The process to link these created scorecards in Mobile Entree is outlined below:
- Created a Mobile Entrée application by clicking ‘New Mobile Application Instance’
- Next, I added a URL to point to my PerformancePoint content list
- Then I selected the option to ‘Add PPS content’
- Finally, I selected my Dashboard titled ‘Monthly Scorecard Jamie Team – Monthly’ from the drop down list
- Now I have the content for the Scorecard and I can link it using the ‘Add Linked Content’ option and created links to each of the dashboards for the individual sales folks
Repeat the process for any other reports on the site and finally you will see the below linkage and ability to drill down to each.
Lastly I then saved the Mobile Entrée configuration page and clicked “Save Settings”.
Now on my Mobile Entrée page on our intranet I am able to see the dashboards above. However the only dashboard which displays is the “Monthly Scorecard Jamie Team – Monthly” in the navigation menu.
The other score cards which are linked can be accessed by clicking through on the main scorecard. We can then drill through to the details by clicking on the top left side of the scorecard.
This click will now give you options as displayed below:
Clicking on anyone of the ‘Drill Down To’ options lets you drill into the details for each of the detailed scorecards which we linked in the Mobile Entrée configuration settings. I know for future releases we would prefer to have filters but I feel it does provide fairly useful mobility applications for cases where we can enter the members.
