Windows Server 2008 UAC and GAC

Yesterday while deploying files to the GAC I got the following error; Assembly Cache Viewer – Install failed.

server2008GACError

I have deployed files to the GAC many times in the past and have never seen this error. Immediately I figured this had something to do with Windows Server 2008. I tired a number of fixes but ultimately I had to disable User Account Control (UAC) and restart. Once the server was back online I was able to drag DLL files to the GAC without issue.

Note: I didn’t have the .NET SDK installed on this server so was unable to use gacutl. I am going to test this on my personal development server and get back to you.
