Earlier this week, The Wall Street Journal published an article on some issues that companies encounter when running their systems in the cloud. It points out that a considerable amount of money is wasted on resources such as unused power or even servers. That’s not a surprise. If you don’t know what you’re doing, mistakes will be made – sometimes, expensive ones.
It can become more problematic when inexperienced teams manage their own cloud operations when they could be focused on developing and selling their own unique products and services. Like I said a few months ago, facilitating the cloud should be left to the experts.
It’s important to remember why companies move to the cloud. The beauty of the cloud, in part, is the ability for companies to eliminate capital expenses and reduce costs associated with operating their own infrastructure.
So, if you’re in the business of developing drugs or devices, or selling clinical research services to sponsors, and you find yourself managing your applications in the cloud, it’s time to rethink your strategy. Drop us a line if you’re interested in hosting your applications in the cloud.
