Forecasting and Reporting with Cognos TM1 and SPSS

Cognos TM1 Implemented forecasting and reporting systems have had many benefits to businesses. These benefits might include (by are not limited to): Improved consistency – a single source for forecasting and reporting.  Decreased overall “processing time” for reporting forecast and actual information.  Decreased manual intervention – fewer “touch points”.  Provide the ability to […]

Manage Projects -like a Goal Keeper

While watching my daughter’s field hockey team compete last weekend, I came to realize that a project manager might learn a lot from a goalkeeper. To be a successful goalie, you need to approach goal tending just as a project manager might manage a project – as a leader, and with a practiced process. Let […]

Let Cognos TM1 Teach You To Design Cubes

After you have determined which dimensions your cube will contain you will need to consider the optimal order of your dimensions. Dimensional order can and will affect overall system performance and its memory consumption. At this point in the design phase, you should have practical samples of all your dimensional data. These samples should be […]

Cognos TM1 – Information Staging

Exchanging Information  Most enterprise TM1 applications will need to exchange Information with external systems. With TM1’s TurboIntegrator, you can setup a direct connection (with supported datasources) and move information in and out of TM1 objects at scheduled times or “on demand”. An alternative to going the “direct route” is using a method referred to […]

Cognos TM1 – Standard TM1 Clients

A typical IBM Cognos TM1 architecture usually will be a distributed, client-server design that will consist of TM1 Application Servers running on remote servers that your users can access using a variety of supported client tools. Cognos TM1 10.1 currently offers the following client tools: TM1 Client TM1 Perspectives TM1 Architect These […]

Cognos TM1 Users – Calculation of Concurrent Users

The number of concurrent users is significant when determining architecture for a TM1 model. To determine the number of concurrent users your TM1 model must support, each user must be assigned a weighting. To determine the weighting of a user you will need to determine the “type” of that user. All […]

IBM Cognos TM1 Build Numbers

What is a build number? Should you ever have to contact IBM for support of your TM1 product, you will need to know your products specific “build number”. Although it is referred to as a “number”, this product identifier is actually a string. All TM1 build strings are formatted in the same manner. This will […]

Replicating IBM Cognos TM1 Cubes – Across Servers

Using the TM1 Replication feature, you can copy cubes and other associated objects from a remote server to your local server, or between two remote servers. This can be done by synchronizing the data bi-directionally among the copied cubes. Replication creates a relationship between two cubes and between two servers. […]

Implementing your Centre for Excellence

Vision To build a CoE, it is absolutely essential to have a clearly defined vision. History proves that this grand, overall vision (or    plan) is critical to developing dominance in a specialty area. Once you establish a plan, specific strategies can then be developed based upon this plan. If strategies are not utilized in connection […]

IBM Cognos TM1 – ExecuteProcess

Another advanced (and handy) feature to be aware of is the TurboIntegrator ExecuteProcess function. This is a very useful function. It allows you to execute a TI process from within a TI process. (Obviously, you cannot have a process call itself). The format is as follows:

Leadership: be the future; don’t just talk about it…

I recently spent some time in Hilton Head, SC with my family recharging and refocusing. Although the company and the scenery were more than inspiring enough to me, I came across the following article “6 Steps to Become Amazingly Inspirational” by Mr. Simon Stapleton, July 18, 2012 and would like to share its message. In his […]

IBM Cognos TM1 Applications- Care and Feeding

Every system that was ever implemented requires routine chores to be regularly performed to “keep it current and healthy” or to “deal with anticipated events” -and TM1 models are no different. Some of these chores might include: The loading of updated data pools from source systems; updating system security; closing an accounting period; updating conversion […]
