Gary Johnson, a delivery director based out of Southern California, is just one example of a colleague using their background in technology consulting to deliver innovation. Below, Gary discusses his role responsibilities, reflects on his time at Perficient, and talks about his personal and professional background.
Describe your job and what you do in your everyday work.
My role as delivery director is three-fold. First, ensure we deliver or exceed what clients expect when they sign up with Perficient, regardless of their business unit. Secondly, my role involves growing Perficient’s business by expanding our presence with my existing clients, and supporting pre-sales efforts with new clients in the SoCal geography. Thirdly, I have a team of direct reports and am responsible for their career growth and contributions to clients.
What are some activities you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time, I try to stay active with outdoor activities such as biking, running, and hiking. I’m a big-time baseball fan and am usually spending some time in March at spring training games in Arizona. I also enjoy off-roading on Jeep trails. Now that I have grandkids, I love spending time with them as well.
Who is someone you admire and why?
I greatly admire both my father and father-in-law. Both came from hard-scrabble childhoods to become a successful engineer and entrepreneur businessman, respectively.
What makes you proud to work for Perficient?
I have been in the technology consulting field for many years, both with very large and very small consulting firms. My time with Perficient has absolutely been the best of my career. The colleagues I work with on daily basis really know their stuff, which translates into adding real value to clients and helping them succeed. I appreciate being part of Perficient every day.
What is some career advice that has helped you?
Some pretty basic advice that has served me well is to show up and be prepared. Those may sound rather trite and straight out of the Boy Scouts, but the more I learn through my career the more convinced I am of the simple truth behind them.
