Integration & IT Modernization

Perficient Listed as a Microservices Strategy and Delivery Vendor

Microservices continue to gain popularity for its potential to deliver scalability, resilience, and agility that isn’t possible with service-oriented architecture. Nearly 70% of businesses are either using or currently investigating microservices adoption.

However, many companies encounter implementation challenges that include a strain on IT to be more agile, adopt new technology, and embrace DevOps. These obstacles prompt businesses to seek outside expertise for help with architecture and strategy for microservices adoption.

Forrester’s recent report, “Now Tech: Microservices Strategy and Delivery Service Providers: Q1, 2018,” lists Perficient among 17 top providers. The report advises IT leaders and application development and delivery professionals on choosing a partner for microservices adoption.

We are honored by this recognition because we believe it speaks to the strengths of our strategic microservices practice. Our practical approach to implementing microservices includes developing a roadmap to modernize and mature IT people, process, and technology. By providing dedicated resources on each project, we help clients overcome obstacles to success, especially those rooted in legacy solutions.

When evaluating potential partners, Forrester lists providers “with a dedicated microservices practice” because they offer a “more focused base for developing specialized resources.”

Additionally, Forrester states that the potential rewards of microservices are compelling, but the risks are high. Make sure your business builds a competency for microservices. When considering service providers, you should:

  • Ensure service provider alignment. Microservices specialties differ across providers, so make sure potential vendors have deep experience with your platform(s). If you haven’t selected a platform, initiate discussions about the vendor’s processes, criteria, and platform recommendations.
  • Build skills transfer into your services agreement. Going too fast is often a risk when adopting microservices. Work with your service provider to include skills transfer so you can avoid taking your organization beyond its abilities.
  • Include APIs with your microservice architecture. Most service providers that help with microservices can also help with API strategy. Consider evaluating vendors with the expertise to help with both.

Within the report, Forrester also listed our work across several industries, including financial services.

Among our recent client successes, TCF Bank sought to improve its customer experience by modernizing existing IT assets. We helped build a competency center for skills transfer while simultaneously updating a legacy mainframe through microservice architecture and DevOps.
