Appian

3 Key Takeaways from Appian World

Appian World concluded with the theme for 2017 of “Transform”. The message centered on how technology is continuing to help organizations facing a need to constantly change, scale, and adapt to an ever changing technology landscape. Appian’s application development platform delivers on the promise to revolutionize how businesses use their applications to deliver products and services to win and retain customers, as-well as engage employees.

Announcements
Appian is introducing a new era of rapid application development by converging Low-Code, BPM, and Case Management with some exciting announcements around new product features called Decision Designer and Integration Designer. Decision Designer reduces application development complexity by enabling non-technical users to maintain business logic or process routing previously embedded in expression rules.

The Integration Designer provides easier integration to existing back-end systems by enabling the definition reusable objects within Appian. These objects allow reusable integration to enterprise-wide or third-party services such as Application Programming Interface (API)’s, Robotics Process Automation (RPA), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Blockchain. The result is 10x gain in integration development productivity for faster delivery of applications.

Along with the new product features, Appian announced partnerships with MuleSoft (API) and Blue Prism (RPA). These partners better enable API discovery and self-service, and securely expose data to users, IoT devices, and business processes.

Digital Transformation
It always great to network with other Service Providers and hear from other Appian customers on their Digital Transformation journey. I was particularly reminded on how using a rapid application development platform helps customers focus on innovation during a presentation from psHealth and their use of Artificial Intelligence to improve health outcomes at lower cost.

The term digital transformation has become a little bit of a buzz word lately. Appian’s definition is that software empowers companies to react, innovate, invent, and deliver customer experiences much faster and in ways that previously didn’t exist. Appian is a single unified product that can be adopted for the simplest to most complex digital transformation initiative. According to Gartner, Appian is the leading business processes and low-code platform to deliver both engaging customer experiences and increase operational efficiencies.

The following are some leading candidates for Digital Transformation initiatives:

  • Customer Journey
  • Business Operations
  • Governance, Compliance, and Risk

The results are faster time to market and more progressive changes.

The cloud
2017 is the 10th anniversary of Appian’s cloud offering. The Appian Cloud has an impressive list of accreditations with Matt Calkins (Appian’s CEO), proudly proclaiming that Appian was not only first to the cloud but is still the best. Appian is accredited for SOC 2 and SOC 3, The PCI Data Security Standard, HIPAA, The Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP), The Cloud Security Alliance’s (CSA) and more. Appian Cloud’s leadership team provided guidance on building reliable, scalable, secure, and compliant applications in Appian Cloud.
