Java Cloud Service (JCS) is a PaaS offering from Oracle. It supports all the PaaS requirements like – elasticity, scaling, automated patching, backup/recovery, etc.
It’s an environment running on cloud hardware on which you can build, deploy, and manage Java applications just as you would in an ordinary virtual or physical server running on your own premises.
Use Java Cloud Service to rapidly provision an application environment with Oracle WebLogic Server as the application container, Oracle Coherence as a caching and data grid tier, and Oracle Traffic Director as the software load balancer – all on top of the infrastructure provided by Oracle Compute Cloud Service.
Sounds great, right? Well, this is how we use it.
It’s quite simple, you need to subscribe to the service by going to the http://cloud.oracle.com/java site. There are 3 available offerings to choose from –
- Java Cloud Service
- Java Cloud Service Virtual Image
- Java Cloud Service – SaaS Extension
You can sign up for a free 30-day trial to see if it works for you and your organization.
One thing to remember is that generic email addresses such as – Gmail, Yahoo, and Hotmail, are not processed. You will not get an error message nor an email when you sign up for the service with your generic email address. So, remember to sign up with your business email address. Once your request is processed, you will receive an email from Oracle Java Cloud Service team about your environment details. If 30 days is not sufficient, you can request a one-time trial extension.
