I am often asked which HFM services should be running in a given Oracle EPM environment. Below are descriptions taken from the Oracle installation documentation for each of the four HFM services. The last column depicts when these services should be running.
Service Name | Service Display Name | Description | Requirement |
Hyperion S9 Financial Management Service | Hyperion Financial Management – Management Service | Service which perpetuates application instances for optimal login performance. Basically, this service pre-starts all HFM applications. Without it, the applications will start when the first user attempts to launch it, resulting in a delay. Disable this service if you have applications that you DO NOT want to start. | Only to pre-start ALL HFM applications. |
Hyperion S9 Financial Management DME Listener | Hyperion Financial Management – DME Listener | Hyperion Financial Management IP Listener for communication with the Hyperion Data Movement Engine. If this service is stopped, the DME Web service will not be able to communicate with all HFM instances on this server. | Always |
HFMWebServiceManager | Hyperion Financial Management – Web Service Manager | Manages the session information for connection in the Financial Management web server. |
Always |
HyS9FinancialManagementWebSvcs | Hyperion Financial Management – Web Services | Provide web services support to Financial Management. | Only if running Financial Close Manager |
