IBM and Jive Lead Enterprise Social Software Market

IDC has released a new report that shows IBM holds 14% and Jive has 10% market share in Enterprise Social Software. David Rowe at CMSWire.com provides some details contained in the IDC report via this article: IDC: IBM, Jive Lead Shifting Enterprise Social Software Market.

I found interesting the growth rates of the various vendors. From 2011 to 2012, IBM grew 35%, Jive grew 53%, Microsoft 97%, and Salesforce 1,100%. Microsoft’s and Salesforce’s growth can be attributed to significant upgrades (SharePoint 2010 and 2013) and new software (Chatter).

Not surprising so much is that Telligent’s growth was a mere 1%. With Microsoft providing better social tools in SharePoint, buying Yammer and Skype, Telligent’s great add on to SharePoint is getting less and less attention. I recently blogged about Telligent is addressing this through som very targeted product offerings.

There are many, many vendors in this space still. I expect to see some consolidation happing in the next 18 months as vendors try to improve their market share.

IDC projects overall growth to slow down for standalone systems as more companies favor integrated and/or embedded systems. We are seeing significant interest in bundling social software with portals and content management systems.
