The guys over at the Spark Blog seem to be on a roll lately with a number of nice posts. I especially like Amit Malhotra’s post on Mobile App best practices. Lots of companies are creating apps for the mobile web, android, iOS, Windows, and other platforms. Most aren’t even worried about putting them on the official app stores. Wtih much development comes great opportunity to just get it wrong so Amit’s advice is timely. Without copying everything he said, let me give you a summary:
- Increase context awareness use
- Increase social networking footprint
- Gamify your user goals and functions
- Aggregate multiple functions and tie them together
- Enable apps to integrate with other frequently used apps
- Simple and clean users interfaces, interaction and experience
My favorite, I’ll go with number 6 because in a mobile world, it has to be king.
