Recently, David Hemphill and I gave a presentation at the Minnesota Government Information Technology Symposium on the issues that enterprises face when attempting to tie mobile applications (either consumer-facing or internal to the organization) to their existing service infrastructure. Enterprises are looking to extend access to corporate data through a mobile device, quite often looking to leverage their existing SOA, providing their business users with information wherever they are located. However, quite often it is not enough to connect a mobile app to the enterprise services. Attention must be paid to such issues as bandwidth, message processing, connectivity, data synchronization and security. A firm needs to turn enterprise technologies, mobile technologies and for mentioned mobile issues into a cohesive mobile strategy. Here is a link to the presentation on Slideshare.
