The Essbase Bootcamp is a five-day course offered by Oracle University and select privileged partners. This course carries a very high pace with an agenda of 85 sub-topics from application design through advanced calculations.
As a retired Infantryman, I take a particular fancy to the course nomenclature but I do my best not to teach it at 100 decibels as I fondly recall my Army Basic instructors taught me. Students of the Essbase Bootcamp are not thickheaded like I was when I originally enlisted. However, I do like to stress to the class at the beginning on Monday that the name is still quite appropriate. Monday is the only day I like to start at 9:00 AM. I think it is fair to give those that travel on Mondays a fighting chance. After all, Houston traffic can seem a bit like combat to some people. The rest of the week, I politely suggest that we start an hour early and consider shorter lunches.

Essbase
I personally prefer a longer day in the classroom for the Bootcamp because we have a good bit of material to cover. Sure, I could read out of the book and be done early, but students would be none the wiser for attending. So we spend a good bit of time during each topic to apply this newly shared knowledge to hands-on practical exercises.
An old Russian proverb states, “Repetition is the mother of learning.” As such, the Bootcamp has not just one but two case studies. Each case study provides a good corporate use of Essbase and provides enough information for students to design and build applications in support of fictitious companies.
The Essbase Bootcamp is not the kind of training you plan for a “boondoggle” or “workcation.” Plan on spending a solid 8-9 hours each day in training, learning from a seasoned consultant and instructor. Walk away from class on Friday with a thorough understanding of how this incredible product ticks and how you can apply that knowledge to developing analytical applications in your organization.
