Government Big Data Push Syncs with IBM Smarter Planet Initiative

Brenda Dietrich, IBM Business Analytics CTO, writes about the March 29th announcement by the US government to invest $200 million in research by universities, non-profit institutes and corporations. She says their goal is to improve tools and techniques used to access, organize and make discoveries from large volumes of digital data.

It doesn’t surprise me that this push by the government is very much in sync with IBM’s Smarter Planet campaign,

We believe the combination of data from the Web, communications networks, governments and businesses, and tens of millions of sensors means humanity has the potential to understand how the world works better than ever before so we can make better decisions and enjoy better outcomes.
