Personalization in Gamification

That’s a lot of ‘ation’s in one title.  However that is the title of a post over at the gamification blog and they are referring to new features in Bunchball‘s Nitro v4.3 system.  Personalization is a key pillar of most portal systems, so this caught my eye.  How are personalization and gamification related?

In this release of Nitro (codenamed Flamethrower!), you can now inject additional fields into each user’s profile that can be used to change the gamification stream dynamically.  The example used is this:  Say the user just purchased an item from you.  In your gamification system, you can reroute that user into a different game path based on that purchase.  So if your game is encouraging users to purchase a product, once that happens, you can switch into the game that encourages the purchase of accessories.  When connected to a portal, not only can your portal begin to display content based on the user’s behavior in that session, your gaming system can take advantage of it as well.

Apparently there are some limitations in this version of Nitro, such as a limit of three fields for this personalization.  But it is definitely a step in the right direction.  You can read the entire blog post here.
