The 5 Judgments of Link Quality

What are the 5 Judgments of Link Quality? They are simple rules to help you determine if the links you have, or the links you are planning to get, and going to be links that help your website rank in the organic search results. Without further ado, here they are:

  1. Would you want this link if the search engines did not exist?
  2. Would you proudly show this link to a prospective customer?
  3. Would you show it to your children?
  4. Was the link a genuine endorsement?
  5. If you must argue that it’s a good link- it’s not!

While the rules are easy to read and understand, if you have spent years working on obtaining low-quality links, or links in volume, or links just for the purpose of SEO, making the change to high-quality link building can be quite hard. BUT, for most of you making this switch will be about survival in organic SEO in the years to come.
Google is getting better and better at finding links they don’t like, and devaluing them OR punishing the sites that give them and/or get them.

The Five Judgments of Link Quality T-Shirt Contest is Over

In June 2013 we ran a contest to pick a T-Shirt design and then we gave away 200 T-Shirts at SMX Advanced. The contest is over, but you can still see the T-Shirt designs shown below!
The winning design was the Mortal Kombat (Fair Fight) design, with the Unnatural Acts design coming in a very close second. In fact, the voting was so close for all 3 designs that we made a whole bunch of each!

The Contest is Over! Thanks to Those of You Who Participated!
