I received this error twice while performing a full backup. The Event Viewer displays error ID 6398.

The workaround for this issue was that I had to give full permissions to the folder containing the backup files. In addition, while entering the backup location make sure to enter the path in the given format, e.g \servernamedirectory even if the backup is to be stored on the local machine. The backup operations only complete successfully (100% without errors) after sharing the drive and putting the UNC path in \…… format.
