Salesforce Data Cloud – What Does noETL / noELT Mean for Me? https://blogs.perficient.com/2024/04/30/salesforce-data-cloud-what-does-noetl-noelt-mean-for-me/ https://blogs.perficient.com/2024/04/30/salesforce-data-cloud-what-does-noetl-noelt-mean-for-me/#comments Tue, 30 Apr 2024 18:46:30 +0000 https://blogs.perficient.com/?p=362222

In the realm of data management and analytics, the terms ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) and ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) have been commonplace for decades. They describe the processes involved in moving data from one system to another, transforming it as needed along the way. However, with the advent of technologies like Salesforce Data Cloud, a new concept is gaining traction: “noETL / noELT.” But what does this mean for you, especially if you’re not knee-deep in the technical jargon of data integration? Let’s explore.

Understanding ETL and ELT

First, a quick refresher on ETL and ELT:

  • ETL (Extract, Transform, Load): This traditional approach involves extracting data from various sources, transforming it into a usable format, and then loading it into a target system, often a data warehouse or analytics platform.
  • ELT (Extract, Load, Transform): ELT reverses the transformation step, loading raw data directly into the target system and then transforming it as needed within that system.

Both ETL and ELT have their pros and cons, but they can be complex and time-consuming processes, requiring specialized skills and infrastructure.

Enter noETL / noELT

Now, let’s talk about noETL / noELT, as championed by platforms like Salesforce Data Cloud. The “no” in noETL / noELT signifies a departure from the traditional data integration approaches. Here’s what it means for you:

1. Faster Time to Insights

  • With noETL / noELT, data can be accessed and utilized more quickly. Instead of waiting for data to go through multiple transformation stages, you can start analyzing it almost immediately.

2. Real-Time or Near Real-Time Analytics

  • By eliminating the upfront transformation step, noETL / noELT enables real-time or near real-time analytics. This means you can make decisions based on the most current data available.

3. Simplified Data Integration

  • For end-users, noETL / noELT translates to simplified data integration. You don’t need to worry about intricate data pipelines or complex transformation logic. Data becomes more accessible and usable.

4. Scalability and Cost Efficiency

  • Scalability is often improved with noETL / noELT, as it reduces the overhead associated with managing large-scale data integration processes. This can result in cost savings as well.

What it Means for You

If you’re a business user, analyst, or decision-maker leveraging Salesforce Data Cloud or similar technologies, here’s what noETL / noELT means for you:

  • Ease of Use: You can focus more on extracting value from data rather than managing its integration.
  • Quicker Insights: Rapid access to data means quicker insights, enabling faster and more informed decision-making.
  • Adaptability: NoETL / noELT architectures are often more adaptable to changing data sources and analytical needs.

Where are we today?

As of April 2024 there are two platforms that are Generally Available (GA) that can be used like this with Salesforce Data Cloud.

  1. Snowflake
  2. Google BigQuery

There are two other platforms that are in Pilot mode as of April 2024.  We are excited to see those move from Pilot to GA.

  1. Databricks
  2. Amazon RedShift

And looking forward, as mentioned in this article at cio.com, Salesforce Data Cloud is looking towards leveraging these two abilities moving forward.

  1. Allowing for data lakes that use Apache Iceberg to surface in Data Cloud with direct file access at the storage level.
  2. Salesforce Data Cloud will also add zero-copy support to the Data Kits that ISVs use to distribute datasets and enrich customers’ data in Salesforce Data Cloud.

What we are so excited about at Perficient is that we can bring expertise to both sides of a project involving these technologies.  We have two different business units that focus on each side…

  1. A Salesforce Business Unit with experts in Salesforce Data Cloud
  2. A Data Solutions Business Unit to help with the Data Lake solutions like Snowflake, Google BigQuery, Databricks and Amazon Redshift.
    1. Here is a recent blog post from a colleague of mine in that Data Solutions business unit.

In conclusion, the rise of noETL / noELT represents a significant shift in how we approach data integration and analytics. It promises to democratize data access and streamline processes for users across organizations. As these technologies continue to evolve, staying informed about their implications will be crucial for maximizing their benefits. Embrace the simplicity and agility that noETL / noELT brings, and harness the power of data more effectively in your day-to-day operations.

ELT IS DEAD. LONG LIVE ZERO COPY. https://blogs.perficient.com/2024/04/29/elt-is-dead-long-live-zero-copy/ https://blogs.perficient.com/2024/04/29/elt-is-dead-long-live-zero-copy/#respond Mon, 29 Apr 2024 16:31:26 +0000 https://blogs.perficient.com/?p=362146

Imagine a world where we can skip Extract and Load, just do our data Transformations connecting directly to sources no matter what data platform you use?

Salesforce has taken significant steps over the last 2 years with Data Cloud to streamline how you get data in and out of their platform and we’re excited to see other vendors follow their lead. They’ve gone to the next level today by announcing their more comprehensive Zero Copy Partner Network.

By using industry standards, like Apache Iceberg, as the base layer, it means it’s easy for ALL data ecosystems to interoperate with Salesforce. We can finally make progress in achieving the dream of every master data manager, a world where the golden record can be constructed from the actual source of truth directly, without needing to rely on copies.

This is also a massive step forward for our clients as they mature into real DataOps and continue beyond to full site reliability engineering operational patterns for their data estates. Fewer copies of data mean increased pipeline reliability, data trustability, and data velocity.

This new model is especially important for our clients when they choose a heterogeneous ecosystem combining tools from many partners (maybe using Adobe for DXP and marking automation, and Salesforce for sales and service) they struggle to build consistent predictive models that can power them all—their customers end up getting different personalization from different channels. When we can bring all the data together in the Lakehouse faster and simpler, it makes it possible to build one model that can be consumed by all platforms. This efficiency is critical to the practicality of adopting AI at scale.

Perficient is unique in our depth and history with Data + Intelligence, and our diversity of partners. Salesforce’s “better together” approach is aligned precisely with our normal way of working. If you use Snowflake, RedShift, Synapse, Databricks, or Big Query, we have the right experience to help you make better decisions faster with Salesforce Data Cloud.

Leveraging Data Cloud for Medical Devices https://blogs.perficient.com/2024/04/24/leveraging-data-cloud-for-medical-devices/ https://blogs.perficient.com/2024/04/24/leveraging-data-cloud-for-medical-devices/#respond Wed, 24 Apr 2024 20:05:30 +0000 https://blogs.perficient.com/?p=362034

From patient records to medical device telemetry, the volume and diversity of data generated for medical device companies can be staggering. However, harnessing this data to its full potential remains a significant challenge for many. Healthcare organizations, including medical device companies, grapple with dispersed data across various departments and technologies. This fragmentation impedes timely and effective utilization of data, hindering effects to deliver personalized experiences and deriving actionable insights.

Enterprises are turning to Salesforce Data Cloud to connect, unify and analyze the vast amounts of customer and device data in real-time. For medical device companies, leveraging such platforms holds the promise of overcoming data complexity and unlocking transformative business benefits.

Context and Trust Building

Every interaction with a customer presents an opportunity to foster trust, and real-time data plays a pivotal role in this endeavor. By harnessing data from medical devices and other sources, companies can personalize interactions, demonstrating a deep understanding of their user’s needs and preferences. For example, a patient using a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) device is not only notified of their glucose levels via their cell phone but can also be reminded when devices are due to be replaced or supplies need to be ordered. This personalized approach builds trust, drives loyalty and offers continuity of care.

Segmentation Power

The ability to access up-to-the-minute data empowers marketing teams to refine their strategies with precision.  Utilizing insights enables optimization of communication efforts for timing, targeting, and maximizing opportunities for positive outcomes.  For example, patients utilizing a cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) can be segmented based on type of arrhythmia, disease progression, and previous treatment history and be sent relevant articles and treatment considerations targeted to their specific needs. This segmentation power enables companies to tailor their outreach efforts, maximizing the effectiveness of their campaigns and communication, and empowering better health outcomes at the patient level.

Salesforce Data Cloud: Empowering Healthcare Transformation

Data Cloud emerges as a leading cloud-based platform that addresses the unique data management challenges faced by medical device companies. By seamlessly integrating data from various sources, including medical devices, CRM systems and marketing automation platforms, Data Cloud empowers business to create personalized experience and drive tangible outcomes.

This scalable offering can be implemented across one or many lines of business, and can be leveraged to optimize the lifecycle of payer offering: from providing members and brokers the option to shop for the coverage that suits their needs, generate a quote, enroll in their chosen plan, and renew their plan.

As a Salesforce Consulting Partner, Perficient has an experienced team of experts with a proven track record of implementing Shop, Quote & Enroll, enabling our customers to realize the following business outcomes:

  1. Increased Member Digital Engagement and Personalization: With a single customer view and streamlined processes, payers can offer more personalized services to their members. This leads to higher member satisfaction and greater engagement with digital healthcare tools.
  2. Capturing Timely Prospect Information: The solution enables payers to capture prospect information in real time, offering a more efficient sales process.
  3. Operational/Administrative Efficiencies and Decreased Costs: By eliminating redundant tasks and streamlining systems, payers can reduce operational costs. This includes a reduction in paperwork, administrative overhead, and the overall cost of managing member data.
  4. Time Savings for Sales Agents: Sales agents benefit from the improved efficiency of the system, as they spend less time on administrative tasks and more time engaging with prospects and members.

Unleashing Flexibility: How SFCC Enables a Composable Commerce Experience https://blogs.perficient.com/2024/04/10/unleashing-flexibility-how-sfcc-enables-a-composable-commerce-experience/ https://blogs.perficient.com/2024/04/10/unleashing-flexibility-how-sfcc-enables-a-composable-commerce-experience/#respond Wed, 10 Apr 2024 18:33:45 +0000 https://blogs.perficient.com/?p=361486

The winds of change are blowing in the world of commerce, and composable architecture is taking center stage. Businesses are ditching monolithic platforms and embracing the freedom to mix and match best-of-breed solutions to create unique and engaging shopping experiences using MACH and Composable architecture. Composable commerce takes headless architecture further. It’s like a Lego set for e-commerce, where instead of just separating the front end from the back end, every component of the commerce platform is broken down into independent, modular services.

In a traditional SFRA (Storefront Reference Architecture) in Salesforce Commerce Cloud implementation, the front end (storefront) and back end (commerce logic) are tightly integrated. When using Composable architecture, by moving to a frontend that is less tightly integrated into SFCC you no longer need to use the old ISML web-cms templates that are holding your teams back. So, you can take a ‘composable’ approach to your commerce solution, choosing to use the best software vendors for the specific needs of your brand and customer experience

But what makes Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFCC) a champion in this composable game? Buckle up, because we’re diving into the features that empower you to become a composable commerce mastermind with SFCC:

  1. Scalability and Flexibility:
    • Microservices Architecture: SFCC utilizes a microservices architecture, where its functionalities are divided into independent, self-contained services. This allows for independent scaling of individual services based on specific needs, supporting the flexibility and modularity required in a composable approach. Various services like Headless CMS, GraphQL, Progressive Web Apps can be utilized.
    • Containerization: SFCC leverages containerization technology, allowing for efficient deployment and management of individual services within a composable architecture. This ensures faster development cycles and simplified scaling.
  1. Open and Extensible Platform:
    • Comprehensive API Library: As mentioned earlier, SFCC offers a vast library of APIs covering various functionalities like product management, order processing, and customer accounts. This extensive suite enables seamless integrations with diverse external systems, fostering a composable ecosystem.
    • API Gateway: SFCC provides an API Gateway tool that aids in managing access, security, and documentation for exposed APIs. This simplifies the integration process and ensures secure communication within the composable architecture.
  1. Cloud-Native Platform:
    • Pre-built Integrations: SFCC being a SAAS platform, comes equipped with pre-built integrations for various third-party solutions like payment gateways and analytics tools. These integrations act as building blocks within a composable architecture, facilitating faster implementation and reducing development effort.
  1. Headless Freedom:

Imagine building your storefront with your favourite tools, like React or Angular, without being chained to a specific front end. SFCC’s headless architecture grants you this freedom, allowing you to craft unique experiences that perfectly match your brand identity.

  1. A Marketplace of Possibilities:

The AppExchange marketplace is your treasure trove of pre-built and certified applications from third-party vendors. These applications act as ready-made building blocks, allowing you to extend functionalities and add even more versatility to your composable commerce ecosystem.

Beyond offering a robust suite of features and functionalities, Salesforce Commerce Cloud (SFCC) seamlessly translates these capabilities into tangible benefits that directly impact your business and that directly benefit end users like,

  • Personalized shopping journeys: AI-powered features like product recommendations and personalized search can be integrated for a more tailored shopping experience.
  • Faster loading times and smooth navigation: Composable architecture can potentially lead to faster loading times and a more responsive user experience.
  • Greater payment flexibility: Integration with various payment gateways allows users to choose their preferred payment methods for a seamless checkout experience.
  • Enhanced product discovery: Composable search solutions can be integrated to enable advanced product filtering and searching, facilitating easier navigation and product discovery.

So, are you ready to embrace the future of commerce? With SFCC’s composable capabilities, you have the power to build unique, agile, and future-proof shopping experiences that keep your customers coming back for more.

Simplifying Address Management with Apex Triggers in Salesforce https://blogs.perficient.com/2024/03/29/simplifying-address-management-with-apex-triggers-in-salesforce/ https://blogs.perficient.com/2024/03/29/simplifying-address-management-with-apex-triggers-in-salesforce/#respond Fri, 29 Mar 2024 07:10:03 +0000 https://blogs.perficient.com/?p=360115

Hello Trailblazers!

In Salesforce, managing addresses can sometimes be a tedious task, especially when dealing with duplicate data or ensuring consistency across different records. However, with the power of Apex triggers, we can automate address management processes to streamline operations and improve data accuracy.

In this blog, we’ll explore how to use an Apex trigger to automatically synchronize shipping and billing addresses on the Account object based on a checkbox field.

Scenario Overview

Imagine you’re working with the “Account Request” object in Salesforce, and you have two sets of address fields: one for billing address and another for shipping address. To simplify data entry and ensure consistency, you decide to implement a checkbox field named “Billing address same as the shipping address.” When this checkbox is checked, the billing address fields should automatically be populated with the values from the shipping address fields.

If you would like to learn more about how it appears on UI, follow this link.

Creating the Apex Trigger

To achieve this functionality, we’ll create an Apex trigger on the “Account Request” object that fires whenever the “Billing address same as shipping address” checkbox is checked. Here’s how we can implement the trigger:

AccountRequestTrigger.apxt

trigger AccountRequestTrigger on AccountRequest__c (before insert) {

    if(trigger.isBefore && trigger.isInsert){
        AccountRequestTriggerHandler.createAccountRequest(trigger.new);
    }
}

AccountRequestTriggerHandler.apxc

public class AccountRequestTriggerHandler {

    //trigger_handler for making billing address same as shipping address when checkbox = true ....
     @AuraEnabled(cacheable=true)
    public static void createAccountRequest(List<AccountRequest__c> accReq){
        System.debug('accReq Value ==>' +accReq);
        for(AccountRequest__c acc : accReq){
            if(acc.Billing_Add_same_as_Shipping_Add__c  == true){
                acc.BillingStreet__c = acc.ShippingStreet__c ;
                acc.BillingCity__c = acc.ShippingCity__c ;
                acc.BillingState__c = acc.ShippingState__c ;
                acc.BillingCountry__c = acc.ShippingCountry__c ;
                acc.BillingPostalCode__c = acc.ShippingPostalCode__c ;
            }
        }
    }

}

AccountRequestTriggerHandlerTest.apxc

@isTest
public class AccReqTrigHandlerTest {

    @isTest
    public static void testCheckboxVal(){
        List<AccountRequest__c> accList = new List<AccountRequest__c>();
        AccountRequest__c accR = new AccountRequest__c();
        accR.Name = 'Prathamesh';
        accR.FirstName__c = 'Pratham';
        accR.LastName__c = 'Parab';
        accR.PrimaryEmail__c = 'parab@gmail.com' ;
        accR.ShippingStreet__c = 'IT Garden';
        accR.ShippingCity__c = 'Sawantwadi' ;
        accR.ShippingState__c = 'Maharashtra';
        accR.ShippingPostalCode__c = '896523' ;
        accR.ShippingCountry__c = 'India';
        accR.Billing_Add_same_as_Shipping_Add__c = true;
        insert accR;
        System.debug('Account Req Record==>' +accR);

        List<AccountRequest__c> accReqest = [SELECT Id, Billing_Add_same_as_Shipping_Add__c , ShippingStreet__c,ShippingCity__c,ShippingState__c,ShippingPostalCode__c,ShippingCountry__c from AccountRequest__c];

        for( AccountRequest__c acc : accReqest){
            if(acc.Billing_Add_same_as_Shipping_Add__c == true){
                acc.BillingStreet__c = acc.ShippingStreet__c ;
                acc.BillingCity__c = acc.ShippingCity__c ;
                acc.BillingState__c = acc.ShippingState__c ;
                acc.BillingPostalCode__c = acc.ShippingPostalCode__c ;
                acc.BillingCountry__c = acc.ShippingCountry__c ;
            }
            accList.add(acc);
        }
        update accList;

        Test.startTest();
        AccountRequestTriggerHandler.createAccountRequest(accList);
        Test.stopTest();

    }

}

In the Apex trigger and its Handler Class

  1. We define a before-insert trigger that fires before the Account Request records are inserted. (You can use before insert, before update, etc. as per the requirements.)
  2. In the handler class, we iterate over the Account Request records in the Trigger.new context variable.
  3. If the BillingAddressSameAsShipping__c checkbox is checked, we synchronize the billing address fields with the corresponding shipping address fields.

In the Apex Test Class

  1. We create a test Account Request record with shipping address fields populated.
  2. We also set the BillingAddressSameAsShipping__c checkbox to true and insert the record.
  3. We query the Account Request record, iterate it, and synchronize the billing address fields with the shipping address fields.

So, with this, we can successfully populate the billing address fields with the values of the shipping address fields using Apex Trigger.

If you did not check the previous part of this blog about how we can implement this functionality with the help of LWC, then you can go with this link.

Conclusion

With the help of Apex triggers, we automated the synchronization of shipping and billing addresses on the Account Request object in Salesforce. With the help of Salesforce triggers, we can streamline data management processes, improve data accuracy, and enhance user productivity.

Template Rendering in Lightning Web Components (LWC) Salesforce https://blogs.perficient.com/2024/03/28/template-rendering-in-lightning-web-components-lwc-salesforce/ https://blogs.perficient.com/2024/03/28/template-rendering-in-lightning-web-components-lwc-salesforce/#respond Thu, 28 Mar 2024 08:39:27 +0000 https://blogs.perficient.com/?p=360098

Hello Trailblazers!

In the realm of Salesforce development, Lightning Web Components (LWC) have emerged as a powerful tool for building dynamic and interactive user interfaces. At the heart of LWC lies its template rendering system, which governs how components display data and respond to user interactions.

In this blog, we’ll learn about template rendering or conditional rendering in LWC and provide an example.

So, let’s get started…

Understanding Template Rendering in LWC

Template rendering in LWC is the process of dynamically generating HTML content based on the component’s template file and the data provided to it. LWC uses a reactive rendering approach, meaning that the UI updates automatically whenever the underlying data changes. This results in a smooth and responsive user experience.

Let’s understand this with a proper example.

Take a scenario where a user requests account creation. So here is the “Account Request” form (a record edit form) along with its fields like Name, Phone, Email, Shipping Address, Billing Address, and a checkbox field—“Billing Address Same as Shipping Address.”

When the user checks the checkbox, all the fields in the Billing Address should be hidden (as this indicates that the billing address is equal to the shipping address). When the user unchecks the checkbox or keeps it as it is, the billing address field should be visible, and the user should be able to add details to it.

If you would like to learn how to create a record edit form in LWC, you can go with this link.

Solution LWC:

    <div class="slds-modal__content slds-p-around_medium" >
        <div class="slds-box box-config  slds-box_x-small slds-text-heading_medium" style="font-family:Arial ;" ><b>Make a request for your Account here!!</b></div>

        <div class="slds-grid slds-wrap slds-p-around" >
            <lightning-card>

                <lightning-record-edit-form object-api-name={Account_Request_Object} onsuccess={handleSuccess} onerror={handleError} >
                    <div class="slds-grid" >
                        <div class="slds-size_2-of-2 slds-grid slds-wrap slds-form_horizontal slds-form" >

Here, we did not check the box. Thus, we filled out all the values.

 LWC Output 2:

In the above output, we used the template rendering. Thus we check the checkbox, it hides the billing fields.

You can see that here we used a checkbox to make the Billing Address the same as the Shipping address. But how is it working?

So, to make the billing address the same as the Shipping address, we simply implement the trigger logic. If you would like to learn more about it, follow this link.

Conclusion

In this way, we implemented the template rendering or conditional rendering here using the address example.
