What is Denodo?

The Denodo Platform is a data virtualization framework in the market that uses a logical approach to enable self-service BI, data science, hybrid/multi-cloud data integration, and enterprise data services.
Today, several large Fortune 1000 companies leverage Denodo to support their mission-critical data virtualization strategies. A single view of enriched and transformed data from multiple data stores. Denodo has helped businesses to unify distributed data warehouses and data lake

Data Virtualization

Data virtualization, also known as Data-as-a-Service(Daas), is an approach to managing data without figuring out the technical details. Earlier, ETL was the conventional process of extracting, loading, and transforming data, which was complicated and time-consuming. Unlike ETl, data is left at the source systems, and an integrated view of data is exposed to all data consumers.

7 Pros of Data Virtualization

  1. Profitable
  2. Risk Reduction
  3. Efficiency
  4. Timely solutions cause work acceleration
  5. Scalability
  6. Flexibility
  7. Data governance

Why Denodo for Data Virtualization

  • Centralized control for query executions to facilitate security and complete governance.
  • Easy and quick access to data in multiple data stores.
  • Integrated data view which combines data from different data stores.
  • Reduction in data replication
  • Meets security and privacy requirements.
  • Supports a wide range of use cases including multiple big data use cases, operational use cases, Web integration use cases, as well as more traditional data management use cases.

Features of Denodo

  • Broad connectivity to various data sources. Any number of data sources can be configured.
  • Two types of views are supported:
    • Base views: These views reflect the data which are existing in the source table. Base views represent data from single table in single data source
    • Derived views: These views are combination of multiple tables which can be from same or different data sources. Derived views are created using VQL queries to join multiple tables based on certain conditions.
  • Multiple folders can be created within each database to store views.

Tools to access Denodo

There are two tools to fetch/query data from Denodo. One is a web-based application and the other one is a desktop application.

Web design studio

Design Studio enables users to manage and develop views for Data virtualization projects. The following capabilities are provided by the tool:

  • Create/Edit/Drop Denodo Virtual Databases.
  • Create/Edit/Drop Data Sources.
  • Create/Edit/Drop Views.
  • Publish Data Services.
  • Execute Queries.
  • Add Extensions.
  • Configure the Cache System.
  • Import/Export Metadata.
  • Configure the Denodo Server.

2. Virtual Dataport Administration Tool

The administration tool is a desktop application with capabilities similar to Design Studio’s. Web Design Studio can be accessed from anywhere, whereas the Dataport administration tool requires separate installation.
Data forms a critical part of any business organization and requires great effort to analyze. Denodo is an advanced technology in Data virtualization that augments access to multiple data systems for business users, hiding the complexity and exposing the data in a business-friendly format while at the same time guaranteeing the delivery of data according to predefined semantics and data governance rules.
