Oftentimes, families of children with serious illnesses have to travel far from home to get treatment. Ronald McDonald Houses offer a place to stay close to the hospital, so families do not have to worry about being far from their children.
Perficient colleagues recently took to the kitchen at a Ronald McDonald House in the Fargo area and prepared meals for the families staying there. Our volunteers planned the entire meal, went grocery shopping, and did all the cooking. Given the bitterly cold winters in Fargo, they opted for warm comfort food of soups, salads, and bread.
Getting Involved with the Ronald McDonald House
Kristen Quick, solutions architect, organized the Ronald McDonald House event. She previously worked in healthcare marketing, so she has a soft spot for families facing medical emergencies.
“The highlight was meeting the wonderful staff and getting a tour of the house,” she said. “The Fargo Ronald McDonald House was built in May 2018. It’s beautiful and so accommodating to little ones and their families. Learning about the generous donations made to build the home, as well as the ongoing ways members of our community continue to give to the house inspired all of us.”
The team took pride in pulling together to help out. At the end, Jena LaPlante (pictured below), solution architect UX/UI, took the lead in cleaning up.
Continuing to Support Their Community
Civic outreach is important to the team.
“Fargo is an extremely generous and caring community. Individuals, families, and businesses around us seem to have a genuine spirit of giving, and our Perficient office is no exception,” Kristen said. “Volunteering provides an amazing opportunity to connect with colleagues while doing something that does good for others.”
