It’s Friday and you need some entertainment. Pokemon Go had a lot of stats from an article at CMO.com. Most of the stats focus on the initial spike and decline but I wanted to highlight two things:
- It’s still out there and still popular even if it’s not an internet meme anymore. Two of the neighbor kids I take to school every now and again play it constantly. They use the car more than walking though.
- Look at the mind blowing numbers on revenue: Players of Pokémon GO have spent more than $250 million on the addictive “augmented reality” mobile game in its first few weeks.
The article has a lot more stats including breakdown of what type of consumer pays for the in game extras.
Now for the serious part of this. My recent post on internet growth highlighted that those who use personalization and wide variety of channels are the ones winning the traffic game. Wouldn’t something like this be a possible channel? Don’t think that a channel must consist of only the big boys twitter and facebook. I’ve seen some interesting channels that range from cross-industry sharing on web sites (new move-ins site to a hospital) to industry tools that drive traffic. (utility rate comparison sites to specific utilities in a non-regulated market). I think the potential for different channels is untapped.
As always, read the entire article for the complete set of stats.
