Innovation in IT?

I was reading the interview of Jamie Miller, the new CIO of General Electric.  Please do check out the interview. Some of the key focus areas she was describing are:

IT-Investment

Innovation
Simplification
Employee experience
Cyber security
Investing in our IT talent

The innovation explained in this interview revolves around the mobile technology, and big Data to  fuel that delivery. GE will be providing  mobile technology combined with  Data, to service folks for delivering superior service. The GE innovation labs put out these applications using better data management / analysis and mobile technology. Simplification is happening in terms of consolidating ERP’s which implies massive data consolidation and standardization especially for a company which acquires new businesses constantly. In order to develop new capabilities, GE is investing in people, securing the corporate data asset (cyber security), and delivering the information instantly (mobile). Also another area of interest is the cloud infrastructure where they see many matured offerings.

In the next coming years, having the Enterprise Data Management strategy which goes beyond the firewall will be the differentiating factor for many businesses. Delivery methods and securing the information is going to compound the challenges as the Enterprise Data starting to live in the public cloud. Above all connecting all the internal and external data and providing meaningful information, to empower the employees to do what they do better, seems like the priority for the businesses.
