Liz Kennedy, a Lead Business Consultant in Denver, shares how a great work/life balance has provided her some rewarding opportunities.
You know how there never seem to be enough hours in the day to finish everything you’d like to accomplish? Fortunately for me, I’ve found a way to “kill two birds with one stone” by helping organize and volunteer in my local Perficient office’s philanthropic efforts. Not only do I get to bond with my co-workers, but I also get to give back to my community and expand my leadership skills!
I’ve been fortunate enough to participate in multiple Habitat for Humanity Build Days (who knew I had such a gift for spackling?), organize a very successful food and supplies drive for a local puppy shelter, participate in a Relay for Life event (think some of your co-workers are wild and crazy during business hours? Try staying up with them overnight taking turns looping a track field!), help solicit donations and prizes for coat, clothing, food, and toy drives, and contribute to emergency relief fund drives (this was especially meaningful with the recent close-to-home Colorado flood relief efforts).
Having my Perficient team’s support during these activities has not only made them more productive, but also much more meaningful! It’s been such a great way to get to know my co-workers, especially those who I haven’t worked with personally on a project, and also a great way to utilize my consulting skills in a different arena.
