IBM recently posted a new tutorial on developerWorks about how to use IBM Worklight to deliver WebSphere Portal pages. The title of the article is very long, but here it is: Deliver an exceptional mobile web experience using WebSphere Portal and IBM Worklight, Part 1: Integrating a hybrid mobile application with WebSphere Portal pages by Jaye Fitzgerald and Jonathan Lidaka. The title indicates it is Part 1, so I’m excited to see the future parts.
If you are not familiar with IBM Worklight, take a look at my previous blog post: Understanding IBM Worklight. Essentially Worklight is a mobile delivery platform that can help transform web sites into native mobile applications.
The developerWorks article cited above walks you through creating a Worklight application that shows how to integrate Worklight with WebSphere Portal 8 using responsive design techniques. You will need IBM Worklight, IBM WebSphere Portal 8, Eclipse, an Android SDK, and a WebDav client to implement the application. The authors promise iOS examples in future articles.
Esseentially, you create a native application that renders Portal 8 pages. The tutorial is very extensive and covers a lot of ground. It not only talks about what you do in Worklight, it also goes into the Portal 8 theme to show how to adjust the theme to be more responsive.
