A few weeks ago, I talked about Big Data Innovations and some of the prominent names in this space. Today, I happened to find this rather intriguing Management Brief from the International Technology Group (based out of Santa Cruz, CA) that makes a comparative study of the 3 biggest names in the Big Data Appliance market space (IBM, Teradata and Oracle), and also provides a detailed cost-benefit analysis for Enterprise Warehouse Solutions.
Cost comparisons presented in this report are based on typical configurations, utilization levels, along with “street” prices reported by users for warehouses characterized by complex mixed workloads. “In practice, configurations and applications vary between and in some cases within organizations, and vendors may price more aggressively in genuinely competitive situations. The economics of special-purpose data warehouse systems are affected not only by pricing, but also by how well architectures handle specific types of workload and by levels of data compression that may be achieved in practice. ”
