Ephox Releases EditLive! 7.6

Ephox just announced the release of their rich text editor, EditLive! version 7.6.  This is probably the best rich text editor on the market.  You see it OEM’d by a variety of vendors including IBM in the WCM product.  I like the flexibility it gives and the ability to integrate to it.  We are seeing more and more content authored in the RTE rather than in a content template.  That means you need a great tool which allows you to make it as easy to use as possible for the authors.  Anyway, here’s a list of what’s new.

Enhanced Internationalization Features and Browser Support to Better Serve the World

Key highlights of the release, EditLive! 7.6, include support for an array of new browsers, enhanced internationalization features, major improvements to EditLive!’s rendering engine and significant enhancements to EditLive!’s collaboration functionality:

Enhanced Browser Support
The new version delivers enhanced browser support for Google Chrome, Firefox 4 and Safari 5.1.  EditLive! 7.6 strengthens the product’s existing browser support with the addition of support for Google Chrome, Firefox 4 and above and Safari 5.1 and above for Apple OS X versions 10.6 and 10.7.  New browser support is also available for Google Chrome on Linux operating systems.
ixed Text Orientation
The release introduces enhanced internationalization features including new flexibility in creating content that includes right-to-left oriented text, such as Hebrew and Arabic. Content can now feature both right-to-left and left-to-right oriented content within the same document. Improvements to cursor positioning and extended character set support also make it easier to create documents in languages other than English.

What You See is What You Get
Rendering engine improvements result in more accurate content, even when using complex styling and layouts. Styling and layouts imported from Microsoft Word are more true to the original document.

Stay On Track
Track changes enhancements more precisely capture content changes. Track changes, together with commenting features, make EditLive! an ideal environment for online content creation and collaboration.

Import
New error handling for large documents ensures that users receive feedback when attempting to load or import a very large document (e.g. several hundred pages) that cannot be rendered in EditLive!.
