Why would you want to upgrade the Lotus Notes Connector in Exchange 2003 to the Microsoft Transporter Suite for Exchange 2007? Well, there are many reasons why you would want to take this approach. One reason would be, to change the transport method of messages between Exchange and Notes. You may also be migrating to Exchange 2007 and are not ready to remove coexistence with Notes. Either way, there are a few steps that need to be taken, before you can upgrade the connector for Notes.
When you upgrade the connector for Lotus Notes, you essentially take ownership of all the contacts that the Connector for Lotus Notes previously created. What will this do? Taking ownership of the connector will basically do a couple things. It changes the directory synchronization source and it also changes the target address for all contacts. The old connector used Notes addresses for target addresses, whereas the new connector uses SMTP addressing and an SMTP connector to send mail.
Following the steps below will help you understand how to take ownership of a legacy Lotus Notes Connector for Exchange 2003. Please note: there are certain mappings and mail routing requirements with the new connector that the ownership command does not configure. These steps should be performed during this process, but are only documented at a high-level in this overview.
· Create SMTP connector in Exchange 2007, to route mail to the Lotus Notes environment.
· Setup Mail routing from Notes back to Exchange, for all Exchange contacts.
· Create a new Directory Connector within the Microsoft Transporter for Lotus Domino. Configure this connector to have similar if not identical settings as the legacy connector. (Note: Ensure you modify the appropriate mapping tables, so the correct SMTP addressing is set as the target address on the contacts.)
Before we upgrade the connector, we need to know what the GUID of the old (legacy) connector is.
· Run Get-DominoDirectoryConnector from a Transporter Command Shell, and locate the legacy connector GUID.
· While running the same command, find the identity of the new connector.
· After you have gathered the GUID of the legacy connector and the Identity of the new connector, issues the TakeOwnership command. The command reads as follows: Start-DominoDirectoryConnector –Identity <new connector identity> -TakeOwnership –LegacyConnectorID <GUID of legacy connector>
After running through this process, check the event log to ensure directory synchronization is taking place. Also check the contacts to ensure their target addresses are updated properly. Finally, test mail routing between both environments.
Hi
We’re migrating from 2003 to 2010 and we’ll use 2007 transporte suite. The process is clear, but what if something goes wrong and you need to rollback to 2003 connector. Is that possible send the GUID back to the old connector (2003) and thing flown using the old connector?
I want to be sure that have a way to rollback in case of any error or huge issue.
Thanks
