Technology is a constantly evolving sector and our professionals are constantly analyzing, evaluating, implementing and adopting new frameworks, technologies and more in their own projects. But, they also find inspiration and a sense of purpose in sharing their findings with people outside the organization. This is exactly why we put together our first Node.js workshop in collaboration with the Node.js conference organizers and other partners. It was a great learning experience for us and we are already looking at creating the next workshop. We hope to create spaces in which sharing and exchanging knowledge among peers is commonplace.

Sharing Node.js know-how with our community
This part Saturday, November 24th, Perficient Latin America held its first free Node.js Workshop in collaboration with NodeConf Colombia, open to all members of Medellin’s tech community. Over 200 participants from curious students to seasoned pros attended the event, ready to take their first steps in applying this technology or build on existing knowledge in order to take their skills to the next level.
The event featured Perficient Latin America expert speakers and relied on experienced professionals from NodeConf and Perficient Latin America to guide attendees as mentors. To ensure the workshop was accessible to all skill levels, the first half of the day was dedicated to training and education. Those present were given the chance to learn more about Node.js, hear from experts, and understand how the runtime environment can be used by modeling real-world scenarios and project applications.
The participatory workshop ended with a timed programming challenge where the top 2 projects receiving tickets to the national Node.js conference. The objective was to allow participants to use their newly acquired knowledge in practice. For those that wanted to take it one step further, a longer challenge was presented, which required participants to complete a more difficult challenge in the 72 hours following the event.
Perficient Latin America works to build strong technical expertise in Medellin
Last Saturday’s open-door workshop is just one in a number of initiatives by Perficient Latin America to honor its commitment to supporting community and regional growth. Top of mind for Perficient Latin America’s social responsibility programs is a shared desire to elevate our professional peers, rejecting the idea of keeping knowledge to ourselves when it can serve as a powerful agent of transformation and growth for the societies in which we operate.
As explained on by Perficient Latin America’s Head of Technology, Sebastian Velez, “Our purpose is to impact people, clients, and society through what we do, and we’re really passionate about that. The ability to promote knowledge, to inspire, and to discuss is part of the commitment we have with the regions where we operate, so these kinds of events are important in fulfilling and going a step further towards fulfilling that purpose.”
