Sailing the shores of scenic Lake Minnetonka, one of Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes, is a summer tradition that colleagues in our Minneapolis office look forward to every year.
This year’s event began shortly after lunch on a Friday in late July. Our General Manager Art Quinn greeted nearly 50 colleagues with his “famous” jokes and quickly briefed the team on Minneapolis project updates. The boat charter company then served up gourmet food and refreshments from an open bar.
Colleagues from our Minneapolis office and other nearby locations took advantage of the opportunity to get to know each other and learn more about the projects they’re working on.
“I enjoy boat cruises because you see people you don’t normally see due to their project placement. Plus, it gives you an excuse to wear shorts to work,” said Michael Kaplan, senior technical consultant.
Some colleagues spent the afternoon playing card games on the deck. Others soaked up the sun in the front of the boat and observed the mansions on the shores of Lake Minnetonka. Either way, the afternoon was filled with laughter and great conversation.
“It is a fun twist to a happy hour. There is something relaxing about being on the water, ” said Matthew Alden, senior project manager.
Our annual boat cruise is one of the ways Perficient Minneapolis shows appreciation for the hard work and dedication of our colleagues. Involvement in planning and attending events such as the boat cruise helps foster employee engagement and ensure a positive and caring work environment.
“It is different than a regular Friday in the office,” said Sarah Rosenberg, lead business consultant. “Social events outside the office setting help us get to know our co-workers better.”
