Colleagues in our Charlotte, North Carolina, office recently joined together to tackle their third annual Habitat for Humanity volunteer day, and in just 8 hours, the team pulled off a dramatic home exterior renovation.
“The neighbors across the street became ‘friends for life’ after seeing the change we were able to make,” said Kevin Anderson, Senior Manager at Perficient.
The project required removing ivy that had taken over half of the front of a home, along with brush, dead bushes, and overgrown trees from the front yard.
On the side yard, the Perficient team picked up enough garbage to fill two large box-car garbage containers. The garbage included beds, broken lawn furniture, printers, building materials, and paint cans – all of it damaged over the years by rain.
Perficient colleagues also removed an 8-x-10 addition that was installed without a permit, and they painted the garage.
Throughout the day, a can-do spirit ran strong among the volunteers.
“During the project, the team worked well together pitching in to help on different tasks. This included working together to move ladders and carry heavy bags of garbage,” Kevin said.
“The group remained upbeat as we saw throughout the day what an impact we were making on the house and on the neighborhood.”
Some of the key players in the Charlotte office’s third annual Habitat for Humanity project included Laura Lindholm, Lead Business Consultant; Michael Parascand, Director; Lynn Pounds, Talent Coordinator; Lori Jane Shoenthal, Business Coordinator; and Greg Thomas, Project Manager.
The team’s first annual Habitat for Humanity project centered on the demolition of a kitchen floor of another area home and replacement the supporting studs and sill plate to fix water damage from rain over the years. The second project focused on framing the second-floor walls of a new home construction.
