About one year ago I blogged about what Liferay was planning for it’s next portal version 6.2. At the Liferay Symposium in October, Liferay announced that 6.2 would be available later this year. I missed the symposium this year, but Brian Ruby provided the following info on CMSWire.
Liferay has implemented Bootstrap for its theme, giving Liferay a nice modern interface. You also get access to the Bootstrap theme library making it easier to use those themes on your site.
Last year, Liferay said that mobile would be an important target for 6.2. They are including the following mobile features in this next release:
- Built-in responsive theme
- Mobile SDK
- Mobile preview
- Mobile device rules
Liferay has also included updates to site hierarchies making it easier to publish content across multiple sites.
They are also improving stability by better isolating individual portlet components and greater modularity in the overall architecture. You can also rollback portlets to prior versions when something goes wrong.
As I said, these features are supposed to ship later this year in the Enterprise Edition of Liferay. The free Community Edition 6.2 is available now on the Liferay Download site.
