Recently, I went through a presentation deck developed by the former Perficient employee Ron Cutadean, of which one page intrigued me a lot. The whole presentation deck is to coach people in US on how to work with people from China GDC.
I just quoted the page as below:
There Are Many Ways to Say ‘No’ in China
< “Yes, I understand what you are saying.”
< “It will be very difficult…”
< “I must consult my superior.”
< “That is an excellent suggestion….”
< “Why of course… Provided that X occurs.”
< “In these circumstances that is not necessary.”
< “We shall study the question with great care.”
< “I am sorry we cannot give you n answer yet.”
< “Have you considered the following alternative?”
< “Conditions at present are not favorable.”
< “That information is unavailable.”
< “At this time we would like to discuss another subject.”
< “It is inconvenient.”
< “We never received your communications.”
< “We would prefer another way, if possible.”
< “Where would you like to have dinner tonight?”
< “(Polite or embarrassed laughter)”
< “Yes, but…”
< “Maybe.”
< “Yes.”
