IBM just announced Sametime 8.5.2 IFR 1 with a number of new features. Some of them look pretty interesting. I’m most interested in the native applications on Android and iOS. Here’s what they say:

IBM Sametime 8.5.2 Interim Feature Release (IFR) 1 further extends unified communications to new mobile devices and adds additional social collaboration capabilities.
IBM Sametime Standard 8.5.2 IFR 1 adds:
* A new native Instant Messaging client for Apple iPhone and iPad devices that includes a dialer for Sametime Unified Telephony licensed users
* New browser-based meeting participation on Google Android tablets and Apple iPads
* New Sametime meeting room features and options such as Active Speaker indication
* New platform support including Mac OS X 10.7, Domino® 8.5.3, Internet Explorer 9, and Firefox 6 and 7In addition to the enhancements in Sametime Standard, Sametime Advanced 8.5.2 IFR 1 also includes:
* Offline messaging
* Multi-file and folder transfer to individuals
* File transfers to multiple people simultaneously
* Organizational tree viewDescription

This new release builds on Sametime’s industry leading messaging and conferencing capabilities in IBM Sametime Standard:
* New native client for Sametime for Apple iPhone and iPad mobile devices includes:
o Presence and instant messaging so you can:
+ Participate in individual or group chat
+ Take and receive photos from the chat window or send from your photo library
+ Get background notification of new messages
+ Leverage Quickfind to locate a contact and initiate communication
+ Send and receive announcements
+ Create customized presence status* Chat history that is retrievable and also appears in active chat windows
* Ability to add new individual contacts or groups to your contact list
* A business card view from which you can directly:
o Send a chat to an individual or group
o Send an announcement to an individual or group
o Add or remove individual from your Sametime contact and or favorites list
o Add individual contact information or everyone’s contact information in a group at once to your Apple device contact list
o Edit the contact or personal group nickname* Application preference management from the Apple iPhone and iPad device settings
* A dialer providing additional mobile telephony capabilities for licensed Sametime Unified Telephony users* New Sametime browser-based meetings for the Apple iPad and Google Android tablets:
o Join Sametime meeting rooms directly from web addresses in the calendar or messaging applications
o Create new meeting rooms or search for meeting rooms by room or owner name
o View shared data and annotations by the presenter; share previously uploaded documents or web sites in the meeting room
o Access room tools, generate and view meeting reports, and change room preferences
o Use the polling tool to add, edit, and send polls
o Execute the end meeting feature or eject users from the room
o Participate by raising or lowering your hand in the meeting room
o Participate in meeting room group discussion* New meeting room features for both the rich client and the browser based desktop meeting experience:
o A new Leave Meeting button for owners and participants.
o An Active Speaker indicator in the meeting room will quickly and clearly let you know who is speaking.
o New flexible persistent meeting room options provide room owners the flexibility to decide whether their room is video enabled each time they return to their meeting room or just keep the selected default setting.
o Upon opening an Audio Video meeting, meeting room owners can now start a meeting with all participants on Auto-Mute . Participants will join in a muted state and can optionally disable mute themselves.
o User interface enhancements that provide more clear labeling of video options.* New click to chat from a recognized name in an IBM Lotus Notes® 8.5.3 environment
* New click to call in an IBM Lotus Notes 8.5.3 environment from a recognized phone number by leveraging third-party software or IBM Sametime Unified Telephony
* New security and administrative options:
o Native Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (SRTP) security for multiple person video chats and meetings
o Administratively customize video resolution settings based on device properties for chat and meetings* New Sametime platform support:
o Mac OS X 10.7, Domino 8.5.3, Internet Explorer 9, and Firefox 6 and 7* In addition to IBM Sametime Standard feature enhancements, with IBM Sametime Advanced 8.5.2 IFR 1 there are now the following additional capabilities:
o Offline messaging:
+ Send offline messages from your Sametime chat window
+ Received offline message text will be included in chat responses
+ View offline messages when you log in* Enhanced file sharing:
o Send files, groups of files, or entire folders to another Sametime user
o Send a file in a multi-way chat window to several people at once, becoming more efficient* Organizational tree view:
o Leverage an organizational tree view of your contacts to quickly see the reporting structure of your company based on the corporate directory* Administrative policy controls and server settings:
o Enable or disable offline messaging via policy; use server settings to control how many messages are stored on the server, including the number of days to save messages before and after delivery
o Enable or disable file and folder transfers via server settings, and set policies for individual file transfer size limit and the types of files that cannot be sent
