IBM Announces Virtualization Edition for WebSphere Portal and WCM

IBM announced that on December 17th they will release their Hypervisor edition.  It’s optimized to run on VMWare ESX and supports the Open Virtualization Framework (OVF).

IBM WebSphere Portal Server Hypervisor Edition V7.0 and IBM Lotus Web Content Management Hypervisor Edition V7.0 are special editions of IBM WebSphere Portal Server and IBM Lotus Web Content Management that run on top of a hypervisor, such as VMware ESX, and supports the Open Virtualization Format (OVF).

WebSphere Portal Server Hypervisor Edition V7.0 and Lotus Web Content Management Hypervisor Edition V7.0 for Novell SUSE Linux® Enterprise Server for x86 (32 bit) and WebSphere Portal Server Hypervisor Edition V7.0 and Lotus Web Content Management Hypervisor Edition V7.0 for Red Hat Enterprise Linux for x86 enable rapid setup and use of web portal and web content management solutions in private cloud deployments.

This support for virtualization on public and private clouds isn’t going to stop.  The advantages are just too much and they have erased much of the overhead that you used to have to pay to runVM’s.
